MBC – Masaa Al-Thaqafiya set

Cultural television lives on conversation. A writer, a musician or a critic needs time to think on air, and a set that shouts makes that harder. For MBC’s Masaa Al-Thaqafiya, produced in Lebanon, the task was to give a long-form programme enough visual presence to hold a broad audience while keeping the tone calm.

Calm, not spectacle

The host desk is warm timber, curved, and set on a circular riser with room for guests around it. Behind it, a wide panoramic backdrop shows a city at dusk: a single horizon that gives the frame depth without competing with the speakers. White portal frames lean in from either side at an angle, edged with linear light, and a vertical panel carries the programme title in Arabic. Cultural references sit in the detail rather than in the architecture.

Light does the editing

Two suspended rings of light hang over the desk. From floor level they read as a soft halo; from a high camera they frame the conversation from above. The scheme moves between clean editorial light for interviews and deeper, theatrical colour for artistic segments, so the set changes mood without changing scenery.

On the studio floor

VIPRO’s scope covered the architectural concept, spatial planning, on-set identity and lighting. MBC’s creative and production teams approved the design and the set was built; the photographs show it under the studio grid in coloured light.
